Opportunity Description
2027 SINGLE VENTRICLE RESEARCH FUND (SVRF)
Additional Ventures' flagship annual research award supports foundational studies aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with single ventricle heart disease. It addresses organ- and multi-organ-level complications and clinical sequelae contributing to long-term morbidity and mortality.
RESEARCH FOCUS
The 2027 cycle welcomes foundational research aligned with the 2026 Additional Ventures Research Roadmap, particularly studies that elucidate, prevent or reverse interrelated organ- and multi-organ-level sequelae.
ROADMAP DOMAINS
Domain I – Add Back a Pump:
1. Build a biological pump.
2. Build a mechanical ventricle.
Domain II – Address Sequelae:
1. Systemic circulatory regulation.
2. Lymphatic and immune equilibrium.
3. Liver health.
4. Kidney and gut perfusion.
5. Cardiac integrity and rxythm stability.
6. Neurodevelopment.
Domain I proposals must be hypothesis-driven investigations of biological, physiological or engineering principles required to restore or support circulatory function. Device design, prototype development, product optimisation and pre-commercial testing are outside this award's scope. Registry builds, biorepository builds and clinical trials are not considered. Research on disease origins must connect to complications and sequelae affecting long-term survival and quality of life.
Eligibility
Eligible applicant type
Independent investigators (including instructors, assistant professors and tenured faculty; tenure-track and non-tenure-track) or postdoctoral fellows/equivalents in mentored positions. PI(s) must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, PsyD or equivalent).
Activities that can be funded
Foundational research to improve mechanistic understanding of single ventricle heart disease and long-term outcomes, aligned with the 2026 Research Roadmap.
Requirements
Proposal requirements
Letter of Intent due 10 November 2026. Full proposals by invitation only: invitations by 15 December 2026; invited proposals due 2 February 2027. Independent Investigator teams may include up to five eligible co-investigators; Career Development proposals cannot be collaborative.
Requirements
ELIGIBLE TRACKS
1. Independent Investigator Track: independent investigators of all levels, including instructors, assistant professors and tenured faculty; tenure-track and non-tenure-track investigators may apply.
2. Career Development Track: postdoctoral fellows or postdoctoral equivalents holding mentored positions.
Principal investigator(s) must hold a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD, PsyD or equivalent). Independent Investigator collaborative proposals are encouraged; one PI must be primary contact and up to five eligible co-investigators may be included. Collaborative proposals are not accepted under the Career Development Track.
Proposed work must be foundational research relevant to single ventricle heart disease and aligned with the 2026 Research Roadmap.
